Winter is approaching, JEZ reminds you not to forget winter maintenance for the laser chiller while keeping yourself warm.

 

一、The basic principle and method of antifreeze

Liquids have a “freezing point”. When the temperature of the liquid is lower than this freezing point, it will solidify to form a solid, and the volume of deionized water and distilled water will increase during the solidification process, which will damage the water-cooled tube and the sealing link, then causing damage. In order to avoid the damage of the laser tube, output head, and water cooler caused by the solidification of the cooling liquid, there are the following 3 protective measures:

1.Under the circumstance that there will be no local power outage, the water cooler will not be turned off at night. At the same time, in consideration of energy saving, please adjust the temperature of low temperature and normal temperature water to 5-10 Celsiusdegrees to ensure that the coolant is in a circulating state and the temperature is not lower than the freezing point.

2.When the equipment is not in use for a long time, drain the coolant in the laser and the water cooler, and then use compressed air to drain the remaining coolant in the water cooler and the laser.At the same time, the water in the water pump and the water cooler filter should also be drained.

3.Add a certain proportion of antifreeze to the chiller: when the use environment is often powered off or does not have the conditions to drain the coolant every day, antifreeze must be used. The base liquid of antifreeze is generally composed of alcohol and water, which requires high boiling point and flash point, high specific heat and conductivity, low low temperature viscosity, not easy to foam, and does not corrode metal parts, rubber hoses, etc. When selecting or preparing antifreeze, its freezing point should be about 5 Celsius degrees lower than the lowest temperature of the operating environment.

二、The choice of antifreeze

Use special antifreeze of professional brand, do not use ethanol instead. It is recommended to use DowthemSR-1 products represented by Dow Chemical or CLARIANT brand.

There are two types of antifreeze suitable for use in laser systems:

1.Antifrogen N(Glycol-water type)

2.Antifrogen L(Propylene Glycol-Water Type)

Note:

1.No antifreeze can completely replace deionized water and cannot be used for long periods of time throughout the year. After winter, the cooling water line must be cleaned with deionized water or distilled water, and the use of deionized water and distilled water as cooling fluid should be resumed.

2.Do not use antifreeze directly, it needs to be mixed with distilled water or deionized water.

3.When starting up, first turn on the chiller to run for about 10-20 minutes, wait for the temperature of the chiller to rise to a suitable temperature for the laser, and then start to emit the laser.
